"A leverage point is a strategic place within a system where making a targeted, well-calculated change can lead to significant and far-reaching consequences. It's like finding the most effective place to apply our efforts and resources to achieve the greatest impact in transforming the system. In Farmington, learning is our leverage point."

Margaret Hendrickson, Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment

"Using the ALTmodel helps us level up our end goal for students. It has helped us shift from what students know to what they can do with what they know."

Beth Diponio, FPS Instructional Coach

altmodel as a lever

“The ALTmodel helps us push each other’s thinking around the level of rigor in our students' work. It has made me think about my own thinking, and give me something to measure learning against. If we find we are living in acquisition, it gives us a strategic way to go deeper.”

The Authentic Learning with Technology Model (ALTmodel) provides a unique lens that intersects more rigorous, authentic learning with technology. It helps educators develop a common conversation around deeper learning, and supports educators design and structure tasks so students are more rigorously prepared academically for the complex challenges they will encounter after their K-12 experience. Specifically, the framework intersects Grant Wiggins’ AMT learning framework with Ruben Puentadura’s SAMR framework, thus asserting that technology must act not as an independent goal, but a tool to drive higher cognitive complexity.
